Hamster Races?  Are You Serious?

Tucson – Some of the fastest hamsters will be competing in the 7^th annual Desert Pet hamster races!  The green flag will drop on Saturday, September 25th at 9:30 AM at Desert Pet.  Check in starts at 9:00 AM.  Pick up registration forms at Desert Pet, 4810 E 22nd.  The races are free, and the top winners will get some great prizes! If you don’t have a hamster, Desert Pet will lend you one.  There will be over $1500 dollars in prizes, with the grand prize valued at over $200.  Every one goes home a winner!  Last year, there were over 100 racers and many more spectators.  This year’s race will be the largest hamster race in United States! The Hamster Races are an event like no other.  The start and 9:30 AM and typically run until noon.  You don’t need to have a hamster to race, we’re lending out ours.  This event is free for all kids and we have a really great grand prize.  We race in heats, so after you’ve won your first race you’ll wait around until the second heat starts.  We allow everyone to race at least 2 times to maximize fun!  You can pre-register at Desert Pet from now until Friday September 24th.  When you pre-register, make sure to save your registration slip and bring it with you on Saturday.  This is your ticket into the race.   

If you do bring your own hamster, we recommend a hamster carrier with water.  Those furry little feet will be quicker if they can relax and refresh between races.  We sell a cool little travel carrier that you can transport them in.  Don’t transport them in a clear plastic ball, those get much too hot!  If you do have your own carrier, freeze a small bottle of water the night before.  Your hamster can lick off the bottle and it will keep him cool. 

We race them on specially designed tracks in standard 7” hamster balls.  You can bring your own ball, but it must be a standard size, no mini balls will be allowed to race.  If you have a dwarf hamster the needs a mini ball, it is best to borrow one of ours for the race. 

After you’ve won your first race, we’ll put your name on a leader board.  After we’ve finished everybody in the round 1 races, we’ll call your name in order from the leader board for the round 2 races.  The same process happens when you win your round 2 race.  After the 2nd round races, the names get called really fast—so stay close by!  After each race, you’ll get tickets that you can buy prizes with.  Just take your tickets over to collect your prizes.
